A lot of leaders, supervisors or managers like to create a challenging environment where they can develop their team by giving difficult task, new to them, limited timeframe, limited or even no resources provide, and the worse one is, no supervision. It is simply asking them to catch a crocodile with bare hands.

It is a very tricky situation to judge that it is right or wrong. In term of safety management, it is totally wrong and illegal.
Section 14 of the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Environment Act. B.E. 2554 – Whereas an employer assigns an employee to work in a working condition or environment that may be harmful
to life, physique, mentality and health of such employee, the employer shall inform the employee of danger which may arise out of work and shall distribute the work manual to every employee before commencing work, changing work or changing workplace.
Section 32 for the purpose of control, supervision and administration operations on occupational safety, health and environment, an employer shall perform as follows:
(1) to conduct hazard assessment.
(2) to conduct study on impacts of working conditions which have an effect on employee.
(3) to prepare operation plan on occupational safety, health and environment and supervisory plan for employee and the establishment
In terms of Leadership Skills, you need to think about the 5 Rights before you assign somebody to perform a task.
- Is he or she a Right Person?- Does he has competency and capability to do that?
- Is it the right task to delegate to someone else? Why you not do it by yourself?
- Is it the right circumstances or the right time? Is it that urgent and has to do it now?
- Is it the right way to do that task? Do you have a better plan, methods, equipment, technique, bla bla bla?
- Is it the right supervision? – You may said yeah! I will standing and watch him to be eaten by the crocodile and yell “BE careful”
Idiot!
