Before you assign team or an individual in your team to do something, think about the 5 Rights.
Right Task: Is this a task that can be delegated? Avoid delegating sensitive personnel issues but delegate operational execution like assembly or prep work.
Right Circumstances: Does the current floor environment support success? Avoid delegating complex new tasks during a high-pressure “48-hour rush” unless absolutely necessary.
Right Person: Match the task to the individual’s competency and capacity.
Right Direction: Provide crystal-clear instructions on outcomes, quality standards, and deadlines.
Right Supervision: Establish a feedback loop. Schedule check-ins to monitor progress without micromanaging.
