Daily, we see, we hear or even witnessed our family members get hurt by accident. In some country that Sanofi operates, such as Thailand, road accident causes more than 10, 000 fatality each year. The other countries in Asia are not much different. Coming to work, visiting our clients, going back home, accident can strike. I am here to speak with you to share my concern and persuade you to actively participate in our new safety initiative which is called “Trust Me”.
Why Trust Me?
Before I start my explanation, may you please follow my simple instruction.
First… Say a word “Trust Me” ..and at the same time, point your finger to the one that you call “Me”…
Now Let’s do it again… Say a word “Trust Me”… “Trust Me” and “Trust Me”…
Now, you may know who is “Me”…
Statistically, before people get hurt at home, having a car accident on the road, or get injury in the workplaces, they are in these following state of mind,
• In rush or being hurried
• In a bad mood, frustration or angry
• Feeling so tired, sleepy and fatigue
• Or the worst one is, feeling “Okay!!! I am fine, no worry!!. This one called “Complacency”.
Let’s me give some example, a mom was stepping up onto a stool, to pick a pack of noodle from the top of the shelf in her kitchen. And suddenly, her 3 years old boy walked into the kitchen. He was reaching his hand to a cooking pan which is now extremely hot. Can you imagine what will happen next?
• First, mom may crazily jump off the stool and shouting “Don’t touch!!”
• Then she fell on to the floor
• Or, mom angrily push the hand of the boy away from hot cooking pot, then he fail.
• Or mom try to catch the handle of the pot, but spill hot water onto her hand and the boy.
Let’s have a little simple analysis. Mom was in a hurry to keep her son safe. She put her self and her son in danger by jumping off the stool, catching the boiling pot and move it swiftly.
In fact, if mom was not in a hurry, she prepare all ingredients she need, keep her boy away from the kitchen. These scenario will never happen. She was in rush.. Who do you think know the best that she was in rush… It is a “She”..In our case, in my case, it is me who know the best. Then the next question is Who is the best one to change this situation to be more safe? The answer is “Me”. To get you at the stage that you can remind yourself before an accident, we have a campaign and here is the detail.
What is Trust Me?
Trust Me is a behavioral safety campaign, designed by WorkSafe Training who is now the consultant for Sanofi Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
1. Trust Me campaign is going to start from now…but no ending. I wish, we as a company will be able to maintain the level of independent safety behavior and drive our safety culture at the worldclass level.
2. During this campaign, there will be a lot of videos, case studies, shared online. All off us, will have access to those case studies. This is to help you to learn how the other people gets hurt. All you will need to do is, putting yourself into those people situation and think
a. What was the state of mind
b. What was the unsafe situation before ending up with that accident?
c. What was the actual consequence?
d. What could be more worst
You are requested to submit your analysis through the “Trust Me Card” online. This is to ensure that you are learning to catch state of mind and danger situation from the case studies.
The best Trust Me card will be selected by the campaign facilitators and rewarded with some impressive prizes.
3. We also expecting you to be able to share “Good To Share” which is your own story. How did you change your behavior and resulting safer outcome to you, to your co-workers, to your fiends and family members. This is to make sure that all learning you have had, is being personalized. Safety is become “Me”. We have the prizes for the winner who share the best story with us.
As I mentioned earlier, the best safety efforts to keep people safe is not someone trying to teach the others but it is to think and stop unsafe action by yourself. This stage is called “Interdependent behavior”. The more we have it, the safer
How can you make Trust Me to be your safety consciousness behavior?
For those who have children, will understand what I am telling you clearly. How worry you are when you send your kids through the gate a school? Will the kid not fall from the slider? Will the kids not to this do that and hurt themselves? This worry will be less and less when they are be able to handle themselves. In the other word, no mom and dad to tell them what to do and what not to do. At that point the kids will say… Mom.. Dad.. don’t worry… Trust Me..
And that is what we are trying to get it out from this campaign. Trust Me… it is good for you.
