Fire Safety

To protect employee from fire in a workplace, the OSHA requires employer to establish effective fire prevention and control measures. This includes having fire fighting equipment, fire emergency plans, and making sure they are working.

Implication

Fire pump not functioned, fire hose leaking, portable fire extinguishers were empty, etc. are simply indicating violation to this regulation. Thailand experienced many fire accident in workplaces killing huge number of employee. The employer are obligated to; Establish and manage effective Fire Prevention and Control System. The law classify type of building based on fire risk. Fire fighting equipment and alarm systems, etc. are based on that, Workplace that employs more than 10 employees must have Fire Prevention and Fire Control Plans readily for auditing. What is in the plan? Fire Safety Inspection Plans, Fire Training, Fire Prevention Campaign, Fire Fighting and Evacuation Plan. The workplaces where located in shared buildings, office or commercial buildings, have to share such plans and corporate to each other. Ordering employee to perform duty that expose to fire risk, they have to be formally informed about work procedures. Storing fire hazardous materials in a building which increasing fire loading, must follow the rules. The regulations also specify the standard for fire building and fire escaping utilities. This include the alarm system, emergency lighting, and fire escape signage. The section 3 Fire fighting -talk about how much water needed for fire fighting, portable fire extinguishes, size and number. It is also set requirement for automatic fire suppression systems. The section 4 is about controlling the source of ignition, heat, electrical false, spark from internal combustion engine, radiation of the heat, electrostatic spark and welding/ cutting activities. Handling and storage of flammable materials requirement are clearly defined on section 5. Section 6 is all about waste material that can become fuel for fire. The section 7 is all about fire prevention from lightning strike. The last section, is all about Annual Basic Fire Fighting Training and fire evacuation drill.
